The Lucent Worldwide Services (LWS) division is
charged with installation, upgrades and repairs to global corporate
networks. Several issues arose due to growing pains within the
organization. The largest issue stemming from this expansion was
attempting to manage several hundred Excel workbooks. This quickly turned
into an overwhelming maintenance exercise for managers and analysts.
Additionally, only high-level data existed in those workbooks, which in
turn decreased profit and cost center visibility.
The solution
involved both iTM1 and Transport. Transport quickly analyzed input data
for Cost Centers, Profit Centers, Countries and the corporate GL from the
old Lucent Legacy systems to quickly organize the data into complex, yet
simple to understand dimensions including proper rollups, aliases and
attributes. Transport then quickly loaded transaction level data,
(consolidating when needed on the fly!) into a 9 dimensional iTM1 data
cube.
The entire P&L is now contained in the independent OLAP system solution.
Now tasks are completed more quickly, with fewer resources and at a much
deeper level. Expense and capital management is achieved real-time. What
used to take days, high-level standard corporate financials are now vastly
more flexible and only takes minutes to analyze.
