Financial Budgeting, Reporting & Headcount Planning Model
CNET Networks began looking for a more scalable and flexible budget, forecasting
and reporting application that would support distribution via an internal intranet.
More importantly, the organization was looking for a better way to budget and perform
analysis on their most significant expense: headcount.
CarpeDatum, Inc. was asked to create a budgeting, forecasting and reporting solution.
Using the TM1 OLAP system to improve existing processes CarpeDatum’s solution provided:
- Headcount and attribute tracking by employee.
- Tracking planned merit and salary increases.
- Ability to plan headcount expenses by individual employee or by cost center.
- Quick update connections to both Peoplesoft and Oracle source systems.
- Excel/Web based input templates.
The two main challenges of this project were completing the project in a short timeline
of 5 weeks and migrating users from a different system to the new web based application.
With the assistance of Project and FP&A Manager, Matt Goff, the team was able to
release an application to the CNET budgeting managers on time. By implementing a
TM1 OLAP system with a Web based front end, users are more easily able to input
budget and forecast information. Analysts can consolidate data across the organization.
