Auto Number Options in Enterprise Services control how new members are added to dimensions during a write-back.   When you enable either the Auto Increment and Add Non Existing Member IDs option or the Renumber All and Add Non Existing Member IDs option, Enterprise Services will display the following settings:

ES - Auto Number Options

These settings control how new members are to be inserted into the dimension as they are encountered.   The first set of options (By Parent and By Dimension) control how the numbering sequence is to be generated and the following options control the textual format for the generated element.

Auto Number Sequencing

There are two types of auto-numbering that can can be configured in Enterprise Services during write-back:

The By Dimension option will automatically assign the member ID based on the format and next sequential value relative to the dimension.   As new members are added to the dimension, regardless of what parent member it is associated with, each member added will be incremented by one.

New members will be created in ascending numerical sequence based on the values contained in the AutoNumber and AutoNumFormat attributes for the dimension, as shown below:

Auto Number Dimension Format

The name of the new member will be formatted based on the format defined in the Row Number Options settings, which is described in the Auto Number Member Format section below.

The By Parent option is similar to the By Dimension option in that new member IDs will be generated by the next sequential number as the member is added to the dimension.  The difference with By Parent option enabled, is that new members will be created in ascending numerical sequence relative to the parent member instead of the dimension as a whole.  The name of the new member will be based on the format and the next sequential numeric value unique to each parent member as defined by the AutoNumber and AutoNumFormat attributes for the dimension being added to, as shown below:

IMPORTANT:  ESManager does not provide a screen for setting these values.  The assignment of the format and the current number to start the sequence must be maintained in TM1 directly.  This can be done by editing the attributes of the dimension where new elements are to be added.

Auto Number Member Format

When inserting a new member into a dimension, the name of the new member will be generated according to the settings in this screen if the Auto Number Options is enabled; otherwise, the name of the new member must be specified by the application.  A prefix will be added to the member name, followed by the numeric value formatted according to the value in the Auto Number Format drop-down list.  The name can also be specified with an appended value.

NOTE:  The reserved value of Parent.ID can be used in either the prefix or the suffix to include the ID of the parent member when generating the name for the new member to be inserted.

Use the Auto Number Format drop-down list to specify how many zeroes the number should  be padded with.  For example, if you select a format as shown below, the first element added will the same name as the parent followed by 0001   (I.E Hourly Employees 0001).
